Just because Winter is upon us, that doesn’t mean the work stops, nor does it mean the fun has to stop.

About 80% of side by side owners use their machine for utility reasons. They are great for getting from point A to point B quickly, especially if it’s a further distance. They are also great for helping carry all the things you need to bring with you for whatever job you are about to tackle. All these things are still applicable in the Winter but now you have it do it all in the cold. In the winter people are more desperate for a quick trip from place to place so they have to spend less time in the snow and cold, this is where a side by side comes into play. There are many equipment brands that sell SXS’s today, but the largest differentiator is the brand’s/model’s ability to be transformed for specific work, like in the snow and cold climates.

Just because its cold out, that doesn’t mean you can’t play in your side by side anymore! In fact, this is the perfect time to bundle up and head out to the trails in the winter wonderland. There are hundreds of trails open year-round just a short drive north of us. Side by sides, with the correct accessories, are built to handle snow so if you enjoy your trails in the fall, imagine exploring them in fresh powder!

So, what kind of equipment do you need to make the most out of your side by side this winter, whether your using it for work or play?

Start with front and rear windshields, roofs, and full cab kits. These will add a significant warmth factor and will block any wind to make your ride experience much more enjoyable. You can also add a cab heater to make it extra toasty.

Next, you will want to consider winter tires. Driving on snow and ice raises a major concern for loss of control, switching your summer tires to a winter version will increase grip and control for better performance. We also offer track systems, the ultimate addition for winter work… and fun.

If you are planning on doing snow removal, a plow will work wonders on your driveway and any land that you need cleared.

Other options that will help you with your winter work or play would include LED light kits, audio systems, towing hitches, winches, storage boxes, bumpers, mirrors, and whatever else you will need to personalize your machine. Don’t forget the correct riding apparel, a helmet is always recommended on a side by side.

ATV

A large amount of people view ATV riding as a sport that should only be enjoyed in warm weather, however there are others that want to get the full use out of their ATV all year long.  A little cold weather shouldn't stop you from enjoying your ATV to the fullest!  They are called all terrain vehicles for a reason, right?!

If your worried about getting cold, the wind and blowing snow .. here's a few things things that can help make your experience more enjoyable.

Windshields, hand guards and hand warmers are wise investments when you're riding in snow because they create an additional layer of warmth and protect from wind.

Consider wearing 3 layers- your first layer should be tight and moisture absorbent, the second layer should be looser, thicker and moisture wicking and the third should be a waterproof jacket/pants. Gloves, boots, helmet and goggles are also a great idea!

A snow plow can do wonders for you and it sure beats shoveling! Upgrading to a more aggressive set of tires is also recommended to help improve traction.

A track kit can bring your fun to a whole new level as they help the ATV stay on top of the snow.

Whether your using your ATV for work or play during the winter a winch is always a good idea. Your bound to get stuck at least once and a winch will make the whole process of getting unstuck a lot less stressful.

We encourage you to get out in the snow for work and for play, its a natural act for an ATV!

Most of the accessories mentioned can be added to any SXS or ATV. At River Valley Power and Sport we have designated, dedicated specialists to help you choose the right accessories for any unit, at any cost that works for you!
